I try to restart with  safe mode, networking mode bla bla mode but still blank. After trying to restart a few times , I give up and decided to bring it to my office. Why ? I want to search in the Internet on how to fix it. Yup, internet is the best way to search everything including dating tips :)

Anyway I find out that there is a secret button you can push during the start up to enter  Windows Vista Advanced Boot Options . Sound cool huh!

Windows-Vista-Advanced-Boot-Options-2

The menu are :

Repair your computer is one of the options available in the Windows Vista Advanced Boot Options menu. It will display a collection of system recovery tools addressing startup problems. Users will also be able to run diagnostics and even restore the system. However, this option can only be accessed via the hard disk only if the tools have previously been installed on a local drive, or through the Windows installation disc.
Safe mode - Starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services.
Safe mode with networking - Starts Windows in safe mode and includes the network drivers and services needed to access the Internet or other computers on your network.
Safe mode with command prompt - Starts Windows in safe mode with a command prompt window instead of the usual Windows interface. This option is intended for IT professionals and administrators.
Enable boot logging - Creates a file, ntbtlog.txt, that lists all the drivers that are installed during startup and that might be useful for advanced troubleshooting.
Enable low resolution video (640 × 480) - Starts Windows using your current video driver and using low resolution and refresh rate settings. You can use this mode to reset your display settings.
Last Known Good Configuration (advanced) - Starts Windows with the last registry and driver configuration that worked successfully.
Directory services restore mode - Starts Windows domain controller running Active Directory so that the directory service can be restored. This option is intended for IT professionals and administrators.
Debugging mode - Starts Windows in an advanced troubleshooting mode intended for IT professionals and system administrators.
Disable automatic restart on system failure - Prevents Windows from automatically restarting if an error causes Windows to fail. Choose this option only if Windows is stuck in a loop where Windows fails, attempts to restart, and fails again repeatedly.
Disable Driver Signature Enforcement - Allows drivers containing improper signatures to be installed.
Start Windows normally - Starts Windows in its normal mode.

So I click the repair computer , and it display a few menu system recovery tools.I click system restore point , and click at the date when my laptop was fine. Wait after 5 minutes, walaaa my screen is back. :)

Honestly, I dunno what actually went wrong but as long it is back to normal, then it is fine with me. I suspect my laptop was improper shutdown when I suddenly close the lid and make the status at sleep.

Anyway if you find my story is helpful please drop a comment if you find it so put of date, forgive me as I am just a beginner :)

I am trying to get to safe mode. When I press, tap or hold the windows key, nothing happens. It goes back to the blank screen with the blinking cursor in the top left corner. I lost my restore cd. Have any thoughts?

    debbie,
if you want to enter to safe mode:

    Windows XP

If Windows XP is the only operating system installed on your computer, booting into Safe Mode with these instructions.

    * If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
    * Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
    * Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a “keyboard error” message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
    * Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
    * Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
    * When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

To use the System Configuration Utility method

    * Close all open programs.
    * Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK
    * The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the “/SAFEBOOT” option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.
    * The computer restarts in Safe mode.
    * Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.
When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck “/SAFEBOOT” and click OK to restart your computer

Windows as part of a multiboot system

Use this method ONLY if you have multiple operating systems installed on your computer.

    * If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
    * Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
    * When the Boot loader menu (list of the available operating systems) appears, use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select the version Windows what you want
    * Press Enter, and then immediately begin tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
    * Scroll to and select the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter.

    Windows Vista

Windows Vista is similar to Windows XP for starting in Safe Mode.

    * Turn the computer on or Restart the computer
    * Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a “keyboard error” message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
    * Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected (the top option)
    * Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
    * When you are finished with troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would
